SUMMARY: Seeking mature, detail-oriented licensed Captains for a variety of vessels. Especially seeking Captains that are willing to work below decks as well as managing a crew. Candidates should have good radar skills, a general knowledge of Boston Harbor and the surrounding Islands, a strong focus on safety and ongoing crew training, and the ability to lead and inspire the crew members to deliver excellent service to passengers. [Please note: this is a safety-sensitive position, and all candidates are subject to pre-employment drug-screening and random drug and alcohol screening.]
Shifts are primarily during the day and some night shifts as well; however, all applicants are required to work at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) as part of their schedule. The ability to work both weekend days is a big plus! Candidates must be able to work at least through Labor Day weekend, and preferably through until the end of October. Compensation is commensurate with experience; company offers an excellent benefits package.
REQUIREMENTS: Ideal candidates for a Captain position at Boston Harbor Cruises should have one of the following licenses:
100 Ton Inland Captain’s License (for Commuter Boats, Sightseeing and Private Charters) or 100 Ton Near-coastal Captain’s License (for Whale Watching, Provincetown and Offshore Division) or a 25 ton license (for BHC Water Taxis).
Transportation Workers Identification Credential or TWIC Card.
Marine Radio Operator Permit.
CPR / First Aid Certificate.
Candidates for the BHC Water Taxi operation should have excellent interpersonal skills, able to work both independently and as part of a cooperative team. Our busy Water Taxis provide on-call service to passengers traveling within Boston Harbor, with stops in downtown Boston, Charlestown, East Boston, the Seaport District, East Boston, and more. Water Taxi captains earn a competitive hourly wage and EXCELLENT tips.
